# World Sickle Cell Awareness Day — June 19, 2025

Every year on June 19th, the world unites to raise awareness about sickle cell disease — one of the most common inherited blood disorders, with a significant impact on African communities.

## What is Sickle Cell Disease?

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. The abnormal "sickle-shaped" red blood cells die early, causing anaemia, severe pain crises, and organ damage. In Cameroon and the East Region, the disease affects many families.

## Free Sickle Cell Screening at Hope Clinic

On June 19th, Hope Clinic Koumé will offer:
- Free sickle cell electrophoresis testing (using our electrophoresis chain)
- Free haematology screening (31-parameter blood count via URIT 5160)

**Date:** June 19, 2025 | **Hours:** 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
